Ahoy, and welcome aboard the Irish Wake!

You and your family, friends or business associates will find sailing and sightseeing aboard the Irish Wake one of the most thrilling activities of your summer travel in Western Michigan.

"Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing- absolutely nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."

from The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

Whether landlubbers or old salts, many guests return again and again for an exhilarating  time sailing and exploring the waters of Lakes Pentwater and Michigan.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do.  So sail away from the safe harbor.  Catch the wind in your sails.  Do it now. Why? Well just because... Dream Explore Discover !"

                                                                             Mark Twain

The atmosphere aboard the Irish Wake is friendly, informal and relaxing.  You are encouraged to get involved in the sailing or just relax and enjoy the sail.

Check our web site for information about private charters, and read about our boat  the Irish Wake, included are my favorite attractions in the Pentwater and surrounding area.  You can also obtain info about gift certificates and see detailed directions to Snug Harbor Marina.

Aboard the Irish Wake

About the Irish Wake

The Irish Wake is a 30 foot (length) Pearson sailboat. She has a wide 11 foot beam (width) and a sloop rigged mast 36 feet tall (above the water line), assuring a steady, smooth and comfortable ride.  We can sail in 4 feet of water (depth), allowing us to get close to the beautiful shores of Lake Pentwater and the exquisite sugar sand beaches of Lake Michigan

The Irish Wake is in excellent condition with beautiful hand varnished teak and mahogany furnishings and secure nonskid decks.  Passengers are welcome to move about the boat from cabin-top to cockpit or into the cabin.  All seating areas are comfortably padded with excellent back support available on most seats. The clean and practical toilet and washbasin in the "head" may be used in complete comfort and privacy.

Safety Aboard

The Irish Wake is thoroughly inspected annually by the State of Michigan DNR, and it is equipped with all safety equipment required by the US Coast Guard.  The Irish Wake is also equipped with an FCC inspected and licensed VHF radio station. Captain Russ holds a Master of Steam, Motor & Auxiliary Sail license issued  by the US Coast Guard.  He began sailing in Pentwater Lake and Lake Michigan over 30 years ago.  Captain Russ has completed Red Cross CPR and First Aid Training, and is enrolled in a Coast Guard Approved random drug testing program, and he does not drink alcohol before or during any sailing excursions.

Attractions

A typical sail charter includes departure from Snug Harbor Marina, sailing past the Pentwater Village waterfront, out into Lake Michigan for an exhilarating sail on the big lake.  From here on the destination will be based on the direction of the wind and the desires of the group. We will point out interesting sights of the area and go over the functions of the boat and how it sails for those who want to learn sailing. Some ideas for charting the Irish Wake include, morning, afternoon or sunset charters. When you contact us let us know your preference.
